STORY IDEAS
Get all dolled up
Alpharetta is home to the only American Girl Boutique and Bistro in the Southeast-a true girl’s world, complete with a doll hair salon and restaurant that serves two-foot long banana split sundaes. Three Alpharetta hotels offer exclusive American Girl packages, featuring amenities like pink bedding and cookies and milk delivered to the room. The rooms make the perfect setting for a birthday party sleep-over in conjunction with a visit to the store.
The great outdoors right in the city
More than 750 acres of award-winning parkland make Alpharetta an outdoor lover’s paradise. The Alpharetta Big Creek Greenway provides 6.1-miles of paved pathway ideal for walking, running, biking and inline skating. Mountain biking trails are just off of the Greenway and additional hiking and walking trails are located throughout Alpharetta. Certain hotels offer bikes delivered straight to your room-and a ride to the Greenway. Explore free outdoor activities in Alpharetta like geo-caching, disc golf at Wills Park and exploring the City’s two arboretums, located in area parks (complimentary guide brochures at the Downtown Alpharetta Welcome Center).
Poking about Alpharetta’s past
Alpharetta recalls its roots through a History Walk comprising 17 historical markers located throughout the city. (Complimentary brochures at the Downtown Alpharetta Welcome Center.) Imagine life in the late 1800s with a stop at the Milton Log Cabin, constructed by Future Farmers of America students during the 1934-35 school year and at the Mansell House and Gardens, a 1912 Queen Anne-style home that serves as the meeting place for the Alpharetta Historical Society and also offers the perfect backdrop as a wedding and special events facility. Take a moment to thank veterans with a visit to the nearby Walk of Memories located at American Legion Post 201. Here, a brick walkway is inscribed with the names of all Georgia residents killed in service including and following WWII. A separate section is reserved for those who serviced and survived. A tank, gun and helicopter are on display.
